During lockdown we like everyone were forced to adjust our training from our regular face to face sessions to zoom, we had always wanted to create online content but struggled for time. Covid-19 forced our hand, we had great up take for our online sessions however not everyone had a partner to work with or equipment.

Knowing how to help our parents isn’t easy, especially when you already have so much else going on (work, family life, your relationship and more). As restrictions ease, face-to-face events are returning and Naidex is first up on the list. Naidex welcomes everyone living with a disability or impairment as well as those that provide support for those individuals. Featuring everything from inspiring keynote speakers to live product demonstrations, Naidex offers something for everyone.
We understand that for many of our community, the past 18 months has been one of shielding and are now excited to return to Naidex to reunite with family and friends again. Being the first live scale event for many, we want to assure the community that the safety of all Naidex attendees and staff is our primary priority.

Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic created an unprecedented disruption to healthcare systems across the globe. This caused rapid dynamic changes in terms of demand and capacity within healthcare which led to the traditional face-to-face patient-physician model coming to almost a complete halt during the first UK lockdown.[1] This presented the opportunity for innovation, resulting in the rapid deployment of new digital technologies, care models and healthcare apps.

In order to boost support for all patient and their families, the NHS has so far recruited over 10,000 healthcare support workers (HCSWs) since the beginning of the year. Data from the NHS has shown that, of the 10,000 new members of staff, half are completely new to health and social care. This increase in HCSWs, which has been dubbed the ‘Nightingale Effect,’ has shown to be as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. In the UK, the population has gained a greater appreciation for the work that HCSWs and other key worker do.

As the government eases lockdown restrictions for sport, more people with cerebral palsy will be able to find local sport and activity clubs through a brand-new online club finder.
Cerebral Palsy Sport (CP Sport) has launched ‘Club Finder’ on its website this week which will enable more people with cerebral palsy the opportunity to connect with a club and find a sport to suit them as the restrictions ease.

On the 19th of March, we were honoured to have Naomi Riches, OBE talking as part of Naidex Virtual. Naomi will be well-known to many people as the Paralympic athlete who (along with her teammates) won the gold medal for adaptive rowing in the London 2012 Paralympic Games. At Naidex Virtual, she gave us the story of her life and her success in the hopes of inspiring people who may have been made to feel like they can’t be successful due to their disabilities.
