Koen De Doncker has more than 25 years of experience in moving and handling techniques. A Master in physical therapy and motor rehabilitation and osteopathy he built up his experience during his first work experience with physical and mental disabled people. From his very big interest to solve the transfer problems of his patients he started the education Business ergonomics and product development at the University of Antwerp Management School, to be able to develop new tools and helping aids. With this background and experiences he organises national and international trainings/workshops about this topic, preferably ‘on the job’.
Avoiding pressure ulcers is one of the most important tasks of a nurse in general elderly and nursing care. Wound care has therefore evolved enormously. For all stages in the treatment of pressure ulcers, there are specific wound dressings in combination with the use of different types of mattresses (slow foam, alternating, ....).But the use of the right mattress and other preventive aids are often not sufficient to avoid pressure ulcers. Therefore it is necessary to combine these with the right mobilization / different positions of the patient. In this practical training we will pay particular attention to the correct positioning and moving/handling techniques within the boundaries of the bed. Eg: Correct positioning in lateral position, sliding higher up without external and internal friction of the skin. Turning patients with as less pressure as possible on critical zones....
