Graham and Christine have both spent their professional careers so far in the field of deafblindness. Both speakers have worked extensively with people who are deafblind, with Graham specialising so far in congenital deafblindness and Christine in acquired. They are members of the Specialist Services team based within Deafblind UK which provides national support to the Deafblind UK teams, members and any professionals. Outside of work, Graham is a committed Yoga teacher and practitioner, and enjoys long walks in the Welsh countryside with his two dogs, Christine as a CODA (Child of a Deaf Adult) and is actively involved in the Deaf community and is trying to improve her yoga skills.
The Care Act (2014) came in to force in April 2015, outlining clear rights for people who are deafblind in particular for specialist assessments, and their potential outcomes. Five years later we pose the question of what has been the impact for this group? We will use new research to discuss if the law is being met if people are aware of their rights and how can we increase awareness.
