Melanie is an empowerment specialist now leading the national Aphasia programme at the Stroke Association. She previously spent 13 years at Speakability ADA, latterly as Chief Executive of this national Aphasia charity which she merged with the Stroke Association in April 2015. Melanie is the current President of the Aphasia International Association (AIA), having been elected in 2016. As both a fundraiser and a communications professional, she has worked with several charities which support, and are led by, people with disabilities, including as a Trustee. She is a passionate believer in the proven benefits of a Self-Help approach as an aid to long-term recovery.
We will explore Aphasia and other communication difficulties commonly experienced by stroke survivors and people with long-term neurological conditions. The session will focus on practical strategies to rebuild confidence and improve communication.
