I have dedicated most of my life to supporting and working alongside people with learning disabilities in their fight for social justice, freedom and independence. It started 25 five years ago, when I worked with a team of mainly disabled women to set up the first Refuge for women with learning disabilities in Europe. The next step was to set up CHANGE in 1993 as a UK based national and international organisation led by disabled people. I wanted to empower people with learning disabilities and support them in reaching their potential and campaigning for their rights. CHANGE does this by employing people with learning disabilities to co-work alongside people who do not have a learning
Through my team and my work at CHANGE, we have changed the lives of many thousands of people with learning disabilities across the world. I have worked in many countries including across Europe, Central America and North Africa. We are deeply involved across the health and social care sector in the UK, leading the way in accessible information, parenting, employment and human rights.
