Getting to Naidex 2021: Simplify assisted travel with Passenger Assistance

In order to ensure that the Naidex experience can be equally enjoyed by all, we have recent partnered with Transreport and their new assisted travel app, passenger Assistance. Together, we are working towards promoting more accessible travel to and from Naidex to make sure that everyone who wants to come to the event, can.

Of course, there are many options for travelling to the NEC, including car, bus, coach and taxi but below, we’ve broken down some information and guidance on how you can use the Passenger Assistance app to best plan your journey by rail.

Download the app

As you know, the Passenger Assistance App was designed to simplify assisted travel. With just a few taps of your smart phone or tablet, you can easily request assistance for your journey to the NEC quickly and easily. Make sure to download the app to your smart devices so that you can arrange assisted travel prior to the event.

How to request assistance

Once you have setup your profile on the app you will be able to input more information regarding your access considerations as well as any personal info. Why not make it easier for station staff to recognise you by uploading a photo to your profile.

The NEC is located a five-minute walk away from Birmingham International Railway Station, so when filling in your journey details on the home screen be sure to select this station as the ‘to’ option. Fill in the ‘from’ option with where you will be travelling from. You can then select whether your journey will be one way or return, the time and date you’ll be travelling, how many passengers there are and if you need to leave any connection time.

You will then be directed to another screen where you’ll be able to select your journey(s). Once you’ve selected the train you’ll be taking, you can add your journey assistance e.g. use of ramp, transfer to seat or help pushing wheelchair. There is also an ‘other info’ box where you can add any other details relevant to your journey.

Check out the below video for instructions on how o to book an Assisted Train ub Journey with the easy to use Passenger Assistance app.

Accessibility at the Naidex

Naidex have also now partnered with AccessAble, their official accessibility partner.

Working closely with the NEC and Naidex, AccessAble have created Detailed Access Guides for the entire venue. including all exhibition halls, car parks, the atrium and The Skywalk. The Guides are 100 per cent facts, figures, and photographs to help people plan their visit to The NEC.

We know everyone’s accessibility needs are different, which is why having detailed, accurate information is so important. It’s why all of the details you’ll find in the Guides have been checked in person, on site, by trained surveyors.

Event Safety at Naidex

Event safety is our absolute number one priority. By working closely with the government and the NEC we are pleased to announce the event safety measures you can expect at Naidex.

COVID-19 Status Checks -  The accepted methods of showing COVID-19 status are as follows:

  • NHS COVID-19 Pass via the NHS App.

  • Proof of immunity shown by a positive PCR test result, lasting for 180 days from the date of the positive test and following completion of the self-isolation.

  • Lateral flow or PCR negative test results text or e-mail, received within 72 hours prior to attending the event.

Face Coverings - We are strongly advising everyone who attends the event to wear a face covering unless they are exempt.

Comfortable Distancing - To make sure everyone who attends the event is a comfortable as possible, we have increased the space of the hall. This includes widening the aisles to at least 3 metres – with aisles stretching to 5m in high footfall places. All theatres and networking areas will have a suitable amount of space between seating.

Ventilation - The NEC has recently undergone a recommission of their ventilation equipment and upgraded their filtration systems to ensure safe, clean air is circulated throughout the venue at all times. All areas will have natural ventilation with open doors and windows. The NEC also has plenty of accessible outside spaces, which are a great for those wanting a break from the halls.

Cleaning - The NEC have increased cleaning times for high contact surfaces throughout event days and there will be hygiene stations - with clear reminders for visitors to wash their hands – frequently positioned throughout the hall and venue.
